You’re welcome, students.

ASM is bringing home the bacon.

Just got the word from SSFC Vice Chair Michael P. Romenesko: ASM saved $22,000 for students when it caught a charge from the University that ASM is exempt from.

Here’s a simplified version of what he told me:  ASM pays for the SAFEride bus pass and cab rides program through Transportation Services.  Transportation Services is not exempt from the centralized services fee like ASM is.  So Transportation Services paid the vendors and marked it as an expenditure even though they were paid back by ASM.  This means ASM is really paying the vendors for these programs, not Transportation Services. Therefore, the services fee should not have been billed and ASM will not pay it. Yay!

Does that make sense? No? Not so much for me either. But I do understand saving $22,000. That is pretty baller.
