Diversity, diversity, diversity!

October 1, 2010

Hey Everyone,

Happy Weekend! After about a month of school, ASM’s wondering, what do you want to accomplish this year? Getting good grades, meeting new friends, joining a student organization, gaining leadership experience, etc.

No matter what your specific goals may be, Diversity Committee needs people from diverse backgrounds (creative, I know), like all of you, to represent and work to change the student body.

The Committee is looking to grow this year and expand to at least 10 committee members, that would work with Chair Martin Uraga on various issues.

Some of the issues Diversity is looking to take part in this year are:

  • Be part of the Ethnic Requirement Discussion (this is coming up!)
  • Assist with the DREAM Act (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act) Get more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DREAM_Act
  • Shadow programs for students
  • Be part of  REAL TALK: a series of conversations lead by ASM, ODOS, OVPDC and MCSC, called Real Talk, which will be a series of conversations in which 25 to 30 student organization leaders will be a part of

In order to expand as a University, students need to work for change on campus, where millions of backgrounds are represented each day.

Help create a fair and positive message on campus and attend the FIRST Diveristy Committee meeting this Tuesday, October 5th at 7:30PM in ASM’s hub on the 4th floor of the SAC (Student Activity Center)

Email Chair Uraga at uraga@wisc.edu for any additional information!

Enjoy your Friday, Badgers!
